Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED)

Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED)

Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) is a mental health condition characterized by frequent, impulsive, and sudden outbursts of unwarranted anger, aggression, or violent verbal/physical behavior. The reaction is typically grossly out of proportion to the situation or stressor involved.

Key Clinical Features:

👺. Impulsive Aggression: Episodes occur suddenly with little to no warning, usually lasting less than 30 minutes.

👺. Emotional Physicality: Outbursts may involve temper tantrums, heated arguments, property damage, or physical assaults.

👺. Proportion: The degree of aggressiveness during an episode is significantly greater than what the provocation warrants.

👺. Post-Episode Remorse: Individuals often feel a sense of relief during the outburst, followed by deep regret, guilt, or embarrassment once the episode passes.

Homoeopathic Management:

🏵️ Nux Vomica: Suited for highly irritable, "workaholic" types who are easily offended. They are hypersensitive to noise or light and explode with anger when contradicted.

🏵️ Lycopodum: Indicated for those who are haughty and bossy at home but timid elsewhere. They often have outbursts over trivial matters due to an underlying fear of failure.

🏵️ Belladonna: Used for sudden, violent rages accompanied by a flushed face, dilated pupils, and a tendency to bite or strike out. The episodes come and go like a flash.

🏵️ Aurum Met: For intense anger and self-destructiveness. The patient may feel deep hopelessness or depression once the anger subsides.

🏵️ Anacardium: Suited for individuals who feel a "duality of will" (an angel on one shoulder, a devil on the other). They exhibit sudden bursts of anger with a tendency toward cursing or swearing.

🏵️ Causticum: Indicated when the anger is triggered by a perceived injustice. The patient is often very sympathetic toward others but intolerant of authority.

IED is a complex behavioral disorder; homoeopathic treatment should be integrated with psychological counseling and professional evaluation
