Acute bronchitis is the sudden inflammation of the mucous membranes in the bronchial tubes, usually caused by a viral infection (often following a cold or flu). It results in a persistent cough and mucus production.
Key Clinical Features:
🦉. Primary Symptom:
A nagging, persistent cough (initially dry, later producing clear, yellow, or green mucus).
🦉. Associated Symptoms: Fatigue, low-grade fever, chest discomfort/tightness, and mild wheezing or shortness of breath.
🦉. Duration: While acute, the cough can often linger for 2 to 3 weeks after other symptoms have resolved.
Homoeopathic Management:
🦉. Aconite: Indicated in the very first stage, especially when symptoms (dry cough, fever, restlessness) appear suddenly after exposure to cold, dry winds.
🦉. Belladonna: Useful for a violent, dry, tickling cough that worsens at night, accompanied by a hot, flushed face and a sore, red throat.
🦉. Bryonia: The cough is dry, hard, and extremely painful, hurting the chest and head. Symptoms are visibly worse from any movement.
🦉. Ipecac: Used when the cough is rattling, spasmodic, and often leads to vomiting or gagging due to accumulation of mucus.
🦉. Hepar Sulph: Indicated in later stages when the cough becomes loose with rattling mucus, and the patient is highly sensitive to cold air.
